Chapter 15 - Stellan stops taking Agatha’s money

He did it all at once.

Too dramatically at first.

Returned a recent $12,000 check.

Canceled her tuition payments.

Called school.

Transferred payment source.

Took over property-tax installment.

Reduced household expenses.

Sold a luxury car.

Canceled club membership.

Moved refinancing plans forward? Better: he reworked budget, no refi needed.

No miracle.

The house remained affordable if we lived smaller.

That was the humiliating truth.

We had not needed Agatha’s lifestyle subsidies.

Stellan had wanted them because they preserved:

Private school.

Luxury travel.

Large home.

Comfort.

He had treated those conveniences like necessities.

Then treated his mother’s demands as cost of maintaining them.
