Chapter 18 - The marriage investigation
Our therapist asked me:
“What would have to be true for you to stay married?”
I said:
“I need to know there aren’t other agreements between Stellan and his mother.”
So we reviewed finances.
No secret business.
No affair.
No second family.
No hidden debt large enough to destroy us.
But there were dozens of smaller dependencies.
Agatha paid:
Vacation villa deposit.
Benson’s summer program.
Kitchen appliances.
A portion of our anniversary trip.
A quarterly housekeeper.
Every payment came with conversation.
Not always demands.
Sometimes just:
“You’re welcome.”
Then later:
“After everything I do for you…”
