Chapter 10 - Elowen’s Kick

Cordelia did not press charges against Elowen.

That was her choice.

But we still had the incident reviewed.

Why?

Because I refused to build Bram’s safety on mythology.

The wedding video showed:

Cordelia gripping wheelchair handles.

Bram locking his wheels.

Cordelia pushing despite resistance.

Elowen approaching.

One kick to Cordelia’s leg and hip area.

Cordelia falling.

Elowen immediately turning to Bram.

No continued blows.

No chase.

No threats.

Counsel advised that the conduct was consistent with a plausible defense-of-another justification under the circumstances, though exact legal analysis always depends on jurisdiction and facts.

No prosecutor pursued anything.

Elowen still felt uneasy.

“I’m glad I stopped her.”

“You should be.”

“I’m not glad Bram saw me kick his grandmother.”

Different problem.

We discussed it with his therapist.

Elowen later told Bram:

“I used my body to stop Grandma from moving your chair when you were saying no.”

He nodded.

Then:

“I kicked her.”

“Yes.”

“Was kicking good?”

“No.”

Elowen took time.

“Stopping her was important. I reacted very fast, and I wish I could have stopped her without scaring you.”

Bram considered.

“She was already scary.”

That hurt.

But it was his truth.
