Chapter 23 - Bram Gets a New Chair

At eight, Bram outgrew his first wheelchair.

The replacement was lighter.

Custom fitted.

Dark blue frame.

Bram chose the wheel guards himself.

Cordelia came with us to one fitting only because Bram invited her.

The technician asked:

“What color accents?”

Bram said:

“Yellow.”

Cordelia smiled.

Then stopped herself from giving an opinion.

I noticed.

So did Elowen.

Bram asked:

“Grandma, yellow good?”

Cordelia looked surprised.

“You want my opinion?”

“Yes.”

“I like it.”

“Okay.”

He chose yellow anyway.

On the drive home, Elowen whispered:

“She did not say navy would photograph better.”

Progress measured in absurdly specific things.
