Chapter 22 - Elowen and Cordelia

Elowen did not forgive my mother quickly.

She remained civil.

That was all.

Cordelia wanted more.

At one point she said:

“I apologized to Bram.”

Elowen answered:

“That wasn’t a transaction.”

My mother went quiet.

Elowen continued:

“You don’t get access back because you completed the apology step.”

Cordelia looked offended.

Then thoughtful.

Good.

Months later, she asked Elowen:

“What would make you trust me?”

Elowen said:

“Stop asking me for the finish line.”

That was the right answer.

Trust returned in ordinary pieces.

Cordelia asking before touching Bram’s chair.

Not commenting on clothing.

Not rearranging family events.

Accepting when Bram did not want a hug.

Showing up.

Leaving without drama.

No single moment restored everything.
