Chapter 14 - The Permanent Ramp

I ordered an accessibility audit of Hartwell House.
Not because Bram alone should have to expose problems before we fix them.
The consultant reviewed:
Parking.
Drop-off zones.
Lawn routes.
Stone transitions.
Restrooms.
Door widths.
Terrace access.
Emergency egress.
Temporary event structures.
Some features were already compliant with applicable requirements.
Some needed improvement.
Some were grandfathered or legally complex because of the property’s age and structure.
We did not hide behind minimums.
The question became:
Can guests actually use the place with dignity?
The permanent terrace ramp was approved.
Designed with preservation input.
No giant industrial structure destroying history.
No architectural catastrophe Cordelia had predicted.
Stone.
Metal rail.
Landscaping.
Elegant.
Functional.
When complete, Bram rolled up it.
Stopped halfway.
Looked at me.
“That’s it?”
“That’s it.”
“I thought Grandma said it would look bad.”
I looked around.
“It looks like a ramp.”
May you like
He shrugged.
Correct answer.
