Chapter 21 - The Business Review

Hartwell House Events changed its governance.
No family member could alter a couple’s event plan without documented authorization.
Brand shoots separated from private events.
Commercial photography required explicit consent from participants.
Children’s image use required guardian permission.
Accessibility modifications could not be canceled for aesthetic reasons without review.
Event staff were trained:
If a guest uses mobility equipment, ask the guest or caregiver what they need.
Do not assume.
Do not move equipment.
Do not create separate seating unless requested.
Cordelia called the policy:
“a manual for common sense.”
Our operations director answered:
“Common sense failed.”
I nearly promoted him on the spot.
Policies exist partly because social pressure can defeat obvious judgment.
A coordinator knew Bram’s seat should not move.
Still moved the card after Cordelia insisted.
Now staff had a procedure for saying no.
