Chapter 20 - Chloe and Me

Our battery cases completed diversion.

Six months no contact helped.

Then Chloe requested mediated apology.

I almost declined.

Sophie asked:

“Is Aunt Chloe gone forever?”

I said:

“I don’t know.”

She said:

“I miss her dog.”

Of course.

Chloe’s dog became pathway.

Not forgiveness.

I attended mediation.

Chloe said:

“I slapped you because I thought you were disrespecting my parents.”

“Yes.”

“That was insane.”

“Yes.”

“I also enjoyed embarrassing you.”

There.

Why?

“You never acted like you needed us.”

Interesting.

She did.

Her identity came from family closeness.

My independence looked like rejection.

“So you wanted me smaller.”

She cried.

“Yes.”

There.

Then I apologized.

“I hit you back after I could have walked away.”

“Yes.”

“I’m sorry.”

She nodded.

No hug.

No sisterly reconciliation montage.

We eventually became civil.
