Chapter 13 - Nora Needed Me Sick, Not Dead

For several days I believed she wanted to kill me.
How could I not?
She put something dangerous in my tea.
Then the timeline made the motive stranger.
Every prior incident had been followed by medical care.
Nora called doctors.
Nora stayed beside me.
Nora insisted I receive treatment.
That behavior did not absolve her.
It suggested something.
The illnesses were windows.
Not endings.
When I was sick:
I stayed in one wing.
Security relaxed certain gallery restrictions because Nora had authority.
Staff minimized disturbance.
I did not attend morning walkthroughs.
I ignored insurance notifications.
Adrian came.
Objects moved.
Then I recovered.
Life resumed.
May you like
Nora did not need me dead.
She needed predictable periods where I was physically incapable of asking why a painting was leaving the house.
