Chapter 7 - The First Time I Was Sick

Detective Aaron Wells asked me a question I thought was unrelated.
“Have you experienced unexplained illness recently?”
“No.”
Then I remembered.
February.
Three months earlier.
Dinner.
Tea afterward.
That night I became violently sick.
Nausea.
Abdominal pain.
Dizziness.
I spent two days under medical observation.
Doctors believed foodborne illness or severe gastritis was possible.
Nobody else at dinner became sick.
I recovered.
Nora stayed beside me almost constantly.
Perfect wife.
Then another episode in December.
Less severe.
Then one the previous October.
Three.
I had never placed them together.
Detective Wells wrote dates.
“Who prepared your food?”
“I have staff.”
“Tea?”
I stared at him.
May you like
“I don’t know.”
That was the moment the current incident stopped being one cup.
