Chapter 4 - What Lily Saw

A trained child forensic interviewer spoke with Lily the next day.
Not me.
Not five detectives.
One specialist.
Recorded.
Open questions.
No:
Did Mommy try to kill Daddy?
No:
Was she putting poison in the cup?
Lily described it her way.
She had been looking for strawberries in the kitchen.
Nora thought she was upstairs.
Lily saw her mother take a bottle from beneath the utility sink.
“Blue cap.”
Then pour something into the teapot.
“How do you know it went into the teapot?”
“Because she opened the little top.”
“What happened next?”
“She put bottle under towels.”
“Did she say anything?”
“No.”
“Why did you think your dad should not drink the tea?”
Lily looked confused by the question.
“Because that’s cleaning stuff.”
Six-year-old logic.

Simple.
Correct.
