Chapter 14 - CLAUDIA’S APOLOGY TO RUBY

Claudia did not see Ruby for nine months.
Therapist recommendation.
My preference too.
Then she asked to send a letter.
Simple.
I read it first.
Dr. Morris read it second.
Ruby heard it aloud.
Claudia wrote:
I pulled out your flowers because I wanted the garden to look like something it was not.
Then:
I said Evelyn wanted your garden. That was not true.
Important.
Then:
I hurt something you made for your mother. I cannot make those exact flowers alive again.
Good.
No promise impossible to keep.
Then:
I am sorry.
Ruby listened.
Then asked:
“Why she lie Evelyn?”
“Because she wanted the garden for a grown-up plan.”
“Bad plan?”
“Yes.”
“Is Evelyn mad?”
“No.”
Ruby considered.
Then:
“Can I send picture?”
“Of what?”
She held up a new marigold.
We sent it.
