Chapter 7 - MY HAND

The slap was captured clearly on greenhouse security footage.
Claudia reached toward another plant.
I caught her wrist.
Moved her hand away.
Ruby remained behind me.
Then I struck Claudia.
Open hand.
One time.
She bruised along the cheek.
No fracture.
No fall injury beyond hitting the planting table.
Could I defend the wrist grab as preventing further destruction and possibly protecting Ruby’s immediate space?
Yes.
Could I defend the slap as necessary?
No.
I did not try.
Police were not called immediately because Claudia initially did not request them, but the security contractor filed an internal use-of-force incident and my lawyer advised that we provide the footage if authorities became involved.
They did after Claudia’s physician documented the bruise and her lawyer made a report.
Good.
No family suppression.
I accepted misdemeanor diversion.
Anger-management counseling.
Community service.
No further violent conduct.
Dismissal on completion.
My relatives complained.
I told them:
“If I want the foundation to admit its failures, I don’t get to hide mine.”
They stopped complaining near me.
Perhaps not elsewhere.
Then the sentence.
“I’ll remove something from this family too.”
What did I mean?
At the moment:
Claudia’s foundation role.
Her access to the greenhouse.
Her social authority.
Not her blood.
Not her economic rights.
Still, it sounded like a Mafia threat.
I apologized publicly within the family later.
Not to weaken the boundary.
To clarify it.
“I cannot remove Claudia from being a Ventresca. I can support removing her from roles where trust has been damaged. Those are different.”
May you like
Good.
Precision killed mythology faster than anger.
