Chapter 24 - THE GREENHOUSE RENOVATION

Villa Ventresca’s greenhouse needed major restoration when I was seventy.
Corrosion.
Glass replacement.
Irrigation modernization.
The estate planned closure for eighteen months.
Someone proposed naming it the Emilia Ventresca Conservatory.
I said no.
Ruby said no faster.
Why?
“Mom hated names on buildings.”
Correct.
Instead, the restored greenhouse carried its historic name:
VENTRESCA ESTATE GLASSHOUSE — 1961.
Inside, one small panel described horticultural programs once developed there, including Emilia’s work.
Context.
Not possession.
The planting bed where Ruby once grew flowers became a teaching table for visiting school groups.
Children planted beans.
