Chapter 9 - The money that made the lie credible

Why would Evelyn believe I faced arrest?
Because Maude created financial evidence around the story.
Not forged criminal charges.
Real transfers arranged to look suspicious.
Renwick Medical Transit billed Halstead-linked companies for emergency transportation after the blast.
Some charges legitimate.
Then Maude caused three additional payments totaling:
$186,000
to be routed through a consulting entity called:
Arden Risk Management LLC.
Purpose descriptions:
Emergency security.
Medical relocation.
Protected housing.
Arden then paid:
Recovery residence.
Private transport.
Legal assistance for Evelyn.
If Evelyn returned and questioned why, Maude told her:
“These are the transfers investigators are watching.”
There was no investigation.
But money existed.
Documents existed.
Evelyn saw my company name on related invoices.
She believed I had paid to keep her away.
Did I authorize?
No.
The payments originated from a discretionary Renwick-Halstead joint emergency-services account created years earlier for event security and transport.
Maude had limited signing authority under threshold amounts.
Control failure.
Then later:
She stopped using joint funds and paid from Renwick entities.
No theft from me large enough to drive scheme.
