Chapter 44 - The Devil's Ledger

Monaco was a glittering jewel of wealth and corruption, a playground for the world's elite sociopaths. The underground casino, known as L'Éclipse, was hidden beneath a massive, private superyacht moored in the deep-water harbor.

Maxwell and Martha arrived in impeccable style. Using the last of their forged identities and the exquisite tailored clothing they kept in their go-bags, they transformed back into the apex predators they had once been. Maxwell wore a bespoke tuxedo, his posture radiating dangerous, old-world money. Martha wore a backless crimson gown that drew the breath from every man in the room, her hair styled in sleek, dark waves.

The casino floor was a hum of hushed conversations, clinking crystal, and millions of euros changing hands on velvet tables.

"Vane is in the VIP lounge," Martha murmured, sipping a martini at the bar, her eyes tracking a tall, broad-shouldered man with a military haircut and a tailored suit. He was surrounded by heavy security. "He's guarding a localized server terminal. That's the ledger. That’s how Victor is moving the money."

"If we destroy that server, Victor's funds evaporate, and he loses his mercenary army," Maxwell said, adjusting his cufflink. "But Vane won't leave it unguarded."

"He will if he has a reason to," Martha smiled coldly. "I'll draw him out. You get the data and fry the hard drive."

Before Maxwell could protest the risk, Martha was already moving. She glided across the casino floor, joining the high-stakes baccarat table where Vane's lieutenants were playing. With lethal charm and a mind for mathematics that rivaled a supercomputer, she proceeded to systematically dismantle their bankrolls. Within twenty minutes, she had won three million euros and publicly humiliated Vane's top men.

The commotion caught Silas Vane’s attention. He stepped out of the VIP lounge, his eyes locking onto the stunning woman in the crimson dress who was currently destroying his crew.

"Keep an eye on her," Vane ordered his guards, stepping away from the server room to investigate the disturbance.

It was the only window Maxwell needed. He slipped through the shadows, bypassing the biometric lock on the VIP lounge with a cryptographic decrypter Luc had provided.

The server room hummed with blue light. Maxwell plugged a localized EMP drive into the mainframe. He didn't just want to steal the data; he wanted to reduce Victor's financial lifeline to molten slag. As the progress bar ticked toward complete structural wipe, the heavy oak door behind him clicked open.

"I wondered how long it would take the dead man to show his face," Victor Vance's voice echoed in the room.

Maxwell froze, turning slowly. Standing in the doorway was his brother. Half of Victor's face was severely burned, reconstructed with tight, shiny skin grafts that pulled his smile into a permanent, psychotic sneer. He held a suppressed pistol aimed directly at Maxwell's chest.
