Chapter 14 - Noah’s interview

A forensic child interviewer saw Noah.
Claire and I were not in the room.
Good.
The interview did not produce a perfect story.
Again, he was three.
He knew:
Vanessa.
Blue.
Cage.
Dog food.
Bad boy.
Daddy.
He said:
“Vanessa says quiet.”
Then:
“Chair long.”
Then:
“No snack.”
Then:
“Cage two.”
That caught attention.
Two?
The interviewer did not lead.
“Tell me about cage two.”
Noah pointed toward a picture card of outside.
Eventually the interpretation became:
There may have been an earlier event where Vanessa placed him briefly in the open cage while it was still near the shed.
Did she close it?
Unclear.
Was that punishment?
Possibly.
No corroborating video.
Groundskeeper remembered seeing Vanessa and Noah near the cage three days earlier.
Nothing more.
Prosecutors did not charge an uncorroborated second confinement.
Good.
Noah also said:
“Vanessa say Mommy baby.”
“What does that mean?”
He could not explain.
Claire later remembered Vanessa once telling her:
“You baby him.”
That phrase may have entered Noah’s language.
Important not to turn toddler fragments into invented evidence.
The strongest provable incident remained the final one.
Thirty-plus minutes in a closed dog cage.
Food humiliation.
Prior pattern of escalating coercive discipline corroborated through staff and video.
Enough.
May you like
No one needed to manufacture more.
