Chapter 6 - “I left proof”

After Vanessa fired Molly, Molly lost her temper.

She sent one text.

You can fire me. I left proof of what you’ve been doing. If you scare him again, Adrian will see it.

Terrible investigative strategy.

Excellent way to alert the person you are documenting.

Vanessa replied:

What did you leave?

Molly did not answer.

Vanessa began searching.

Router logs later showed an unfamiliar device had briefly connected to the guest Wi-Fi under a generic camera identifier.

Vanessa had access to the home network dashboard because she managed wedding vendors.

She saw it.

Started looking.

The next four days, household staff noticed drawers disturbed in Noah’s room.

Toy bins emptied.

Books moved.

Vanessa said:

“We’re reorganizing.”

On the morning of the cage incident, a housekeeper found Captain Blue in the upstairs hallway with stitching partly torn.

She assumed Noah damaged it.

Vanessa took it.

Later the teddy appeared outside near the cage.

The camera remained inside because Molly had installed it behind the rigid eye socket, not loose stuffing.

Vanessa tore the side seam searching.

Missed it.

Then tossed the bear away when Noah kept asking for it.

That was why she panicked when I found the lens.

She knew Molly had left proof.

She just did not know where.

The cage had not been created because of the camera.

Important.

Vanessa’s discipline pattern existed first.

The camera altered what she knew could be proven.

That distinction would matter later.
