Chapter 13 - The Hidden Pattern

Detectives reviewed earlier incidents.
Not because every argument became a crime retroactively.
Because escalation has history.
Three months before Easter, I called a friend and hung up immediately.
The friend remembered hearing Ethan shouting.
Six months earlier, a neighbor heard something break.
Eight months earlier, urgent care treated my sprained wrist.
I told them I fell.
No one could prove Ethan caused that injury from the record alone.

Did that cause the sprain?

Could I prove it beyond doubt?
No.
The prosecution focused on what was supported.
Easter.
A prior documented threat.
Coercive messages.
The preparation for taking me north.
False documents.
Not every bruise.
That helped me psychologically.

I did not need to turn every painful memory into courtroom evidence.
