Chapter 9 - Margaret’s Role

Margaret never admitted:

I helped my son abuse his wife.

Her explanation was more sophisticated.

She believed Ethan and I had a:

“volatile marriage.”

Both sides.

Strong personalities.

Arguments.

Misunderstandings.

She claimed the lake house was intended as a quiet place for me to recover.

Why pack secretly?

“Because Emily would refuse anything Ethan suggested.”

Why create messages in my voice?

“To reassure Richard.”

Why forge my signature?

She denied forging it.

Why did she mention waiting for my face to clear?

Margaret said:

“I didn’t want her father seeing her bruised and assuming the worst.”

Dad later told her through attorneys:

“There was nothing left to assume.”

The signature became important.

A handwriting examiner could not declare authorship with magical certainty, but comparison strongly suggested it was not mine.

Forensic analysis also found a scanned image of my signature stored on Margaret’s laptop.

Taken from an old holiday rental agreement.

That did not prove she personally placed it on the form.

It proved access.

Digital metadata later connected the file creation to a computer in her home.
