Chapter 20 - My Divorce

I filed eleven weeks after Easter.
Why not immediately?
Because divorce is not a bravery test.
I was recovering.
Moving.
Meeting prosecutors.
Sleeping badly.
Returning to work.
Some mornings signing my own name felt exhausting.
Then one Tuesday I woke up and realized I had spent eleven weeks asking myself:
Can I ever trust him again?
Wrong question.
The better question:
Do I want to build my life around determining whether I can?
No.
I filed.
Ethan contested several financial issues.
That was his right.
He also asked for marital counseling.
I declined.
Counseling requires enough safety for honest disclosure.
I did not have that with him.
The divorce became paperwork.
Assets.
House.
Retirement.
Furniture.
No children.

Thank God for that simplicity.
The marriage ended eighteen months after Easter.
