Chapter 21 - Margaret

Margaret entered a plea agreement rather than go through a full trial.

Her criminal exposure came from helping restrain Daniel, assisting concealment, arranging false documents, obstructing the investigation, and facilitating Martin’s movement.

She had not initiated the certification fraud.

She had not personally attacked Martin.

She had still crossed the line repeatedly after knowing people were being held against their will.

Her attorney argued she acted under emotional pressure from Ryan.

Prosecutors answered that she had multiple opportunities to contact police.

Both facts could exist.

She received a significant sentence.

Not life.

Not instant release.

Years.

At sentencing she looked at Daniel.

“I thought I was saving Ryan.”

Daniel answered only when permitted.

“You kept saving him from consequences until the consequences became us.”

Margaret cried.
