Chapter 8 - Why the Funeral Home Didn’t Look

Thomas Bell nearly lost his license over what happened.

At first I wanted him to.

Later, facts complicated my anger.

The funeral home received a sealed internal container from a transport contractor it had used twice before.

The accompanying documentation claimed the remains were severely damaged and already prepared under public-health protocol.

Margaret had specifically requested no viewing.

No embalming.

No reopening.

Immediate closed-casket service.

Thomas should have verified the paperwork independently.

He did not.

He trusted a familiar transport chain and a wealthy family pushing for privacy.

That failure mattered.

But he was not part of Ryan’s plan.

His phone records, finances, and staff testimony supported that.

The casket itself had been swapped after arriving at the funeral property.

A delivery camera showed Ryan’s SUV entering the rear service drive at 3:12 that morning.

He remained forty-six minutes.

The camera inside the loading bay had mysteriously lost power.

When questioned, Ryan said he had delivered flowers.

There were no flowers in his vehicle.
