Chapter 19 - Thayer pleads to one count

The criminal case did not go to a sensational trial.
Thayer accepted a plea.
One felony count tied to attempted unauthorized use of high-value property as collateral.
The separate unlawful-taking count was dismissed as part of agreement.
He admitted:
“I removed the Bellamy ring without owner authorization intending to use it to support a private loan transaction.”
The judge asked:
“Did you intend to return it?”
“Yes.”
“That does not make the authorization exist.”
“No.”
Then:
“Did you remain silent while a child was accused?”
Long pause.
May you like
“Yes.”
That answer mattered more to Gwendolyn than the financial confession.
