Chapter 7 - Percival remembered the second box

That evening, after the guests left, Percival said:
“Daddy?”
“Yes?”
“There were two blue boxes.”
I stopped.
“What do you mean?”
“At the table.”
“Two ring boxes?”
He nodded.
“One was open.”
“And the other?”
“Thayer put it under napkins.”
I did not ask more.
Venue staff searched.
Found nothing.
Then a server remembered seeing a small velvet case discarded in a service corridor trash bin.
Security retrieved trash before removal.
Inside:
Empty blue velvet ring box.
Different manufacturer from the Bellamy heirloom case.
New.
Receipt sticker partially removed.
The box itself proved little.
But now we had:
Original ring in Thayer’s pocket.
Evidence he investigated replicas.
