Chapter 26 - Percival goes to another wedding

My cousin married fifteen months later.

Percival wore another bow tie.

He asked:

“Is there a ring table?”

“No.”

“Good.”

At reception, someone’s phone went missing.

An adult said jokingly:

“Check the kids.”

I turned.

Before I could speak, the adult saw Percival’s face.

He corrected himself immediately.

“Bad joke. Sorry.”

That mattered.

No escalation.

No lecture.

No search.

Percival returned to his cake.

Then put two wrapped candies into his pocket.

I saw.

He saw me see.

“Mine.”

I smiled.

May you like

“Yours.”

Progress sometimes fits inside a suit pocket.
