Chapter 24 - The ring changes hands

Estelle stopped wearing the Bellamy ring.
Not because court took it.
Because she could not look at it without remembering the wedding.
She placed it in a bank safe-deposit box.
Then asked:
“Should Gwendolyn have it eventually?”
I said:
“Your decision.”
“What about Percival?”
“He does not need compensation in gemstones.”
She almost smiled.
Then:
“Your father wanted it kept in family.”
“It is.”
No estate war.
No secret will.
No dramatic transfer.
Just a ring.
May you like
Valuable.
Heavy with more meaning than any object deserved.
