Chapter 11 - Claire meets Adam
Claire asked to meet Adam without me.
He agreed.
I waited outside the café like a man awaiting sentence.
They spoke for ninety minutes.
Later Adam told me what happened.
Claire asked:
“Did Megan hate me?”
“No.”
“Did she think I was the reason Daniel hid Ryan?”
“No. She thought Daniel was the reason Daniel hid Ryan.”
Fair.
“Did Megan want Ryan to live in my house?”
“She wanted him to live with his father.”
“Did she ever consider what that would do to Lily?”
“She expected Daniel to tell you in time so you could all prepare.”
There.
Megan had not planned to drop Ryan into Claire’s life after death.
She expected me to behave like an adult before then.
Then Claire asked:
“Did Ryan resent Lily before Megan died?”
“Sometimes.”
“Did anyone address it?”
“His therapist did.”
“What did Daniel do?”
Adam answered:
“He told Ryan there was enough room for both kids.”
Not wrong.
