Chapter 25 - Megan’s grave
Ryan asked me to visit Megan’s grave with him.
I had gone to funeral.
Claire had not.
This time Claire asked:
“Can Lily and I come?”
Ryan considered.
Then:
“Lily can if she wants.”
Claire understood that he had not said yes to her.
She did not push.
Lily came.
Claire stayed home.
At the cemetery Ryan put flowers down.
Lily whispered:
“Hi, Megan.”
Ryan almost laughed.
Then cried.
Lily stood beside him.
No hug until he reached first.
He did.
She let him.
Later Ryan asked:
“Do you think Mom would be mad I hit Lily?”
“Yes.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
He nodded.
“Good.”
He wanted standards.
Not absolution.
Then:
“Would she be mad at you?”
“Yes.”
