Chapter 21 - The guardianship audit

The court ordered an accounting of Ryan’s guardianship.
This is where people expected millions stolen.
There were not.
Ryan had paid:
Medical insurance.
Rehabilitation bills.
Mortgage expenses.
Professional caregivers.
Legal costs.
Most financial management was appropriate.
But approximately $38,000 in legal expenses related primarily to Ryan’s divorce and custody position had been paid from an account containing Emily’s marital funds while he controlled access.
The accounting referee found part of that allocation improper.
Ryan repaid approximately $24,000 after credits and allocation.
More serious were the reports.
The court found that two guardianship updates materially understated Emily’s functional improvement and omitted recommendations for structured family contact.
Civil sanctions.
Removal as guardian.
Attorney-fee assessment.
Referral to prosecutors for review of false statements.
The prosecutor ultimately accepted a plea to a misdemeanor false-filing offense rather than a felony theory because the statements mixed opinion, medical interpretation, and omissions rather than completely invented facts.
No cinematic fraud conviction.

Still a legal consequence.
