Chapter 22 - Sentencing

Aurelia’s final sentencing covered:

Child endangerment.

Unlawful confinement.

Commercial fraud convictions.

Factors:

No prior criminal record.

Children recovered physically.

Infant’s vulnerability.

Punitive intent.

Prior warning.

Eighteen-month financial scheme.

Abuse of management authority.

Partial restitution already escrowed from disputed bonus compensation.

Judge imposed:

Four years imprisonment.

Twenty months suspended.

Twenty-eight months to serve.

Three years supervised probation afterward.

No unsupervised contact with minors during probation unless court approved.

No officer or management role in Vellari Executive Services during probation.

Restitution:

Criminally proven corporate loss minus credits.

Specific medical expenses not already covered.

No confiscation of her shares.

No lifetime ban from family.

Then Aurelia spoke.

“I never wanted Clara hurt.”

I believed that might be true.

She had wanted obedience.

The judge said:

“You used an infant’s vulnerability as leverage against a seven-year-old. Intent not to cause the worst possible outcome does not erase the risk you deliberately created.”
