Chapter 24 - Elliot returns to Unit Six

After evidence release, Unit Six came back to the fleet.
Dale asked:
“Do you want it sold?”
My instinct:
Yes.
Immediately.
Then Elliot heard.
“Why?”
“Because of what happened.”
He frowned.
“Car didn’t lock us.”
Interesting.
“No.”
“Aunt Aurelia did.”
“Yes.”
He asked:
“Can I see it?”
His therapist agreed if controlled.
We went to the vehicle storage facility.
Engine off.
Doors open.
Cool day.
Elliot stood beside rear seat.
Did not climb in.
Then:
“Clara was there.”
“Yes.”
He touched the door.
“Can it lock from outside?”
“Yes.”
“Can I open from inside?”
“Some locks and child-safety settings can restrict rear-door opening. That day you could not get out.”
He nodded.
No demonstration.
No reenactment.
Then he said:
“Sell it.”
“Why?”
“Ugly.”
It was not ugly.
It had become irrelevant.
We sold Unit Six at normal fleet auction after legal hold ended.
No ceremonial crushing.
May you like
No fire.
A vehicle was not guilty.
