Chapter 9 - My threat becomes a case too

The district attorney reviewed the estate footage.
Several exterior cameras captured:
Children being removed.
Aurelia approaching.
Me handing Clara to Caleb.
My slap.
My statement.
“Touch my children and stop breathing!”
My attorney said:
“We can argue heat-of-moment hyperbole.”
“I said it.”
“Yes.”
“I won’t pretend otherwise.”
Prosecutors filed:
Simple assault for the slap.
Misdemeanor menacing/harassment-related charge tied to the death threat, depending statutory language.
No attempted murder.
No conspiracy.
No special treatment because people were afraid of my name.
My lawyer expected diversion or negotiated disposition because:
One strike.
No prior assault record.
No continued attack.
Immediate child emergency.
But the threat complicated it.
I agreed to:
No contact with Aurelia outside lawyers and business proceedings.
No approaching her residence.
No directing employees to intimidate her.
That last condition offended me until my lawyer said:
“Your employees include men whose job title is bodyguard. The court is going to be careful.”
Fair.
I told Caleb and the entire security team:
“No one contacts Aurelia for me. Ever.”
May you like
“Understood.”
Power requires rules most when anger says it does not.
