Chapter 10 - The Emergency Contact Changes

Fairmont Academy had a digital parent portal.
Rachel Carter.
Daniel Carter.
Both authorized.
Pickup contacts included:
My sister Julia.
Daniel’s brother Michael.
Our nanny, now part-time.
Three weeks before the bathroom, Melissa entered a change request.
Julia removed.
Michael retained.
Two additional contacts added:
Melissa Shaw.
A man named Peter Voss.
Who was Peter?
Property manager for the furnished rental.
That made no sense.
Why would a rental-property manager be authorized to collect my child from school?
Melissa’s explanation:
Daniel told her Peter was:
“temporary transportation support.”
She entered it.
No second-parent confirmation occurred because the portal treated Daniel as a fully authorized parent.
Fairmont’s process permitted either parent to add emergency contacts unless a court restriction existed.
No court order existed.

The change was technically allowed.
The deceit lay in the purpose.
