Chapter 5 - The Folder
Inside the suitcase folder were copies of documents.
A proposed school-withdrawal form for Noah.
A transfer-record request.
An emergency-contact update.
A temporary mailing address in another state.
A furnished rental property.
And a signed note that read:
To whom it may concern,
I, Rachel Carter, am voluntarily withdrawing my son Noah Carter from Fairmont Academy because we are relocating temporarily for family reasons.
The signature beneath it looked like mine.
It was not.
The handwriting was an image.
Copied.
The source was later identified as an old school field-trip waiver.
The withdrawal had not yet been finalized.
Important distinction.
Melissa had prepared documents.
Some were entered into a draft workflow.
But Noah was still officially enrolled when police arrived.
That mattered legally.
