Chapter 22 - Noah’s Fear of Doors

For months Noah hated closed doors.
Bathroom.
Bedroom.
Closet.
If I closed one, he reopened it.
Therapist said:
Let him.
So I did.
Privacy became secondary.
One afternoon he saw a maintenance worker repairing our new apartment’s bedroom door.
Noah asked:
“Can that one break?”
The worker looked confused.
I answered:
“Any door can break.”
Noah became anxious.
Then I added:
“But doors aren’t what keep us safe. People and plans do.”
We had a plan.
My phone charged.
Neighbors known.
Emergency contacts.
School informed.
Therapist.
Family.
