Chapter 16 - The School’s Failure

Fairmont Academy hired outside counsel and investigators.

They found a system designed around separated parents cooperating in good faith.

Either parent could update contacts.

Registrar staff could prepare transfer records based on an authorized parent’s request.

No automatic second-parent notification until final submission.

That worked for ordinary families.

It created a vulnerability in ours.

Melissa exploited her access.

Daniel exploited parental authority.

The school changed policy.

High-conflict or disputed relocation situations required documented notice to both authorized parents unless a legal exception applied.

Unusual pickup contacts triggered confirmation.

Staff could no longer accept private payment for “consulting” involving current students.
