Chapter 20 - The Criminal Case

Chloe faced charges stemming from the physical assaults against Eleanor and Maya, unlawful confinement, and other conduct supported by the evidence.

The prosecution did not charge her with:

“faking dementia.”

There is no magical offense with that label.

They charged provable acts.

Confinement.

Assault.

Abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult under applicable law.

Evidence manipulation where specific conduct fit statutory elements.

The manipulated home-security records supported intent and pattern.

The medical-placement scheme supplied context.

Chloe ultimately entered a negotiated plea to serious offenses involving elder abuse, unlawful restraint, and assault.

She received incarceration followed by supervised release and mandatory treatment.

Not life.

Not a theatrical hundred-year sentence.

Enough to mark what happened as criminal.

Enough to create enforceable separation.

Maya did not have to testify at a full trial because of the plea.

Mom was relieved.

So was I.
