Chapter 6 - The Hidden Cameras Were Chloe’s Mistake
Chloe wanted cameras.
That became ironic.
Her original purpose was to document my mother’s supposed decline.
She installed one concealed camera in the upstairs hallway.
Another near the rear sitting room.
She wanted footage of:
wandering.
confusion.
falls.
angry episodes.
Then she discovered cameras record things you do not plan.
So Derek created automation rules allowing her to pause recording.
But the system had two layers.
Cloud storage.
And local diagnostic cache.
Chloe knew about the cloud.
She did not fully understand the cache.
Neither did I.
Maya discovered it accidentally.
One afternoon she used the wall tablet after a camera failed to reconnect.
A thumbnail appeared from twenty minutes earlier.
Chloe standing outside Eleanor’s bedroom with a meal tray.
Then walking away with it.
Maya began copying clips whenever she could.
