Chapter 6 - Tyler’s parents blame me

Tyler’s father was Graham Brooks, a surgeon.
His mother, Celeste Brooks, sat on the school foundation board.
They requested a meeting.
Their attorney began:
“Our son was pushed into a fountain by an adult.”
“Yes,” I said.
“You admit physical contact.”
“Yes.”
“Do you believe your judicial position excuses that?”
“No.”
That answer interrupted the script.
He continued:
“Tyler suffered bruising to his hip.”
“I’m sorry he was injured.”
Graham Brooks looked at me.
“Your daughter was not physically attacked.”
I felt something inside me turn cold.
“Her assistive communication device was taken and thrown into water while she was blocked from retrieving it.”
“That is property damage.”
“No.”
The school’s disability coordinator, who had been invited, spoke before I could.
“It may also constitute disability-based harassment depending the investigation.”
Graham did not like that.
May you like
Neither did Whitmore.
I noticed.
