Chapter 8 - The Bloodline Unveiled

The heavy rain had stopped by dawn, leaving a crisp, golden sunrise over the Hudson Valley.
A fleet of five black armored SUVs pulled up outside a private medical research facility in upstate New York. Damien stepped out of the lead vehicle, dressed in a sharp black suit, carrying Lily in his arms. Beside him walked Eva, wearing a simple cream dress that Damien had ordered for her, her confidence restored.
Marco and six tactical guards pushed open the facility doors, clearing the private wing until they reached a secure room at the end of the hall.
Inside sat Dr. Harrison Vance—the former head of obstetrics at St. Jude's Hospital. At sixty-five, Vance was a pale, nervous man who had been living under the protection of the Hart Group for six years.
When the heavy doors swung open and Damien Moretti walked into the room, Dr. Vance dropped his tea cup, the porcelain shattering against the floor.
"Mr... Mr. Moretti..." Vance stammered, backing against his desk in terror.
Damien set Lily down beside Eva and walked up to the doctor. He didn't raise his voice or pull a weapon. He simply set the silver encrypted drive and Clara's handwritten note onto the desk.
"You signed my daughter's false death certificate, Dr. Vance," Damien said, his voice smooth as silk and cold as ice. "You told me my wife and baby were dead."
Vance sank into his leather chair, trembling violently. "They paid me five million dollars, Damien! Victor Hart—Selene's father—threatened to ruin my medical license and destroy my family if I didn't swap the delivery records!"
"Where are the original DNA files, Vance?" Marco demanded, stepping into the doctor's personal space.
"In... in the central terminal!" Vance wept, pointing a shaking hand toward the computer on his desk. "The complete genetic sequence matching Clara Moretti and Damien Moretti to the child delivered by Nurse Eva Bennett!"
Damien turned to look at Eva. "There's one question you haven't answered, Eva."
Eva stepped forward, holding Lily’s hand softly. "What is it, Damien?"
"Why did Clara trust you?" Damien asked gently. "Out of fifty nurses in that hospital, why did my wife give her baby to you?"
Eva looked down at Lily, tears brimming in her eyes, then looked back up into Damien’s intense gaze.
"Because Clara wasn't just my patient, Damien," Eva revealed softly, her voice cracking with emotion. "Clara was my older half-sister. We had the same father."
Damien froze, his jaw dropping in absolute shock. Marco’s sharp eyes widened as the final piece of the puzzle clicked into place.
"You're Clara's sister?" Damien asked softly.
"Our father kept his second family hidden from the public," Eva explained, tears falling freely now. "Clara found me two years before she married you. When she realized she was being poisoned in the hospital, she knew I was the only person in the world who would die to keep her baby safe. I became a housemaid in your mansion because I needed to bring Lily home to her father."

Damien walked over to Eva, pulling Clara's sister into a warm, emotional embrace, honoring her five years of sacrifice and bravery.
"Thank you, sister," Damien whispered softly into her hair. "Welcome home."
