Chapter 12 - Celina’s Parties

Halloran’s updated investigation uncovered a pattern.

Not crimes.

Social behavior.

Celina had attached herself to three wealthy families before ours.

Always after disruption.

Divorce.

Death.

Public scandal.

A gap appears.

Celina becomes useful.

Organizes events.

Introduces advisors.

Manages invitations.

Mediates disputes.

Then gradually starts speaking on behalf of people who never asked her to.

In one family, she told staff:

“Mrs. Dalton wants it this way.”

Mrs. Dalton did not.

Another:

“Mr. Pierce asked me to handle donor communication.”

He had not.

Nothing huge.

No millions stolen.

No secret deeds.

Authority by repetition.

People stopped questioning because Celina sounded like somebody who had already been authorized.

That was exactly what Sofia’s consultants had flagged.
