Chapter 25 - The Pendant

The silver pendant belonged to Ellie.

I offered to put it in a safe.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Mom gave it to me.”

“Technically she gave it to Margaret—”

“Dad.”

“Right.”

She wore it occasionally.

Not every day.

The code inside no longer mattered.

Halloran changed systems.

The recovery token was retired.

The tiny paper became obsolete.

I considered keeping it.

Ellie threw it away.

I stared.

“That was evidence.”

“Not anymore.”

“You could have asked.”

“It’s numbers.”

Again:

children often solve symbolism faster than adults.

The pendant remained.

The code disappeared.

Correct order.
