Chapter 22 - Sofia’s Voice

I had recordings of Sofia.
Videos.
Birthday messages.
One in particular showed her sitting beside four-year-old Ellie.
Sofia looked tired.
Thin from treatment.
But smiling.
She told the camera:
“Ellie, if Daddy ever starts acting like he knows everything, remember that he absolutely does not.”
I objected from behind the camera.
Sofia laughed.
Years later, Ellie watched it.
Again.
Again.
Then asked:
“Can dead people choose stuff after?”
“Sometimes they leave instructions.”
“Did Mommy leave instructions about me?”
“Yes.”
“What?”
I thought about the report.
Then answered:
“That people should not use her name to control you.”
Ellie nodded.
May you like
“That’s a good rule.”
Best summary in the entire case.
