Chapter 6 - How Could Sofia Flag Someone She Never Met?
I called Halloran’s senior investigator.
A woman named Jane Mercer.
Late fifties.
Direct.
“She never met Celina Graves?”
“No.”
“Then why was Celina in the report?”
“Because Mrs. Moretti did not ask us to investigate friends she already knew. She asked us to evaluate likely future entrants into the family’s social orbit.”
“How?”
“Public affiliations. Charitable boards. event networks. introductions made through intermediaries. People actively attempting proximity.”
Celina had already been moving toward us.
Not personally.
Through charities.
Social clubs.
Fundraisers.
People who knew people.
She attended two events hosted by organizations Sofia supported.
Submitted proposals to join committees.
Requested introductions.
None reached Sofia directly.
Halloran noticed the pattern.
That was how C-17 entered the review.
Sofia never shook her hand.
May you like
Never spoke to her.
Never chose her.
