Chapter 21 - Ellie’s Anger

Ellie became angry after the fear faded.
Good.
Anger meant she no longer blamed herself.
At first:
“Was I bad?”
No.
“Did Mommy think I needed Celina?”
No.
“Would Mommy like me?”
That one nearly broke me.
I sat beside her.
“Your mother adored you.”
“What if I’m annoying?”
“You are.”
She stared.
I smiled.
“You’re eight. That’s your professional responsibility.”
She hit me with a pillow.
Then:
“Did Mom know Celina?”
“No.”
“Then why Celina say she did?”
“Because Celina wanted something to be true.”
“That’s lying.”
“Yes.”
May you like
“Stupid lying.”
Also yes.
