Chapter 20 - Family court

Nobody “won” Olivia.

She was not property.

Daniel remained her father.

The court did not terminate his parental rights.

Evidence did not justify that.

Instead:

Temporary parenting restrictions.

Mandatory family therapy.

No use of punitive isolation.

No recording Olivia for litigation except as specifically permitted.

Structured grandfather contact.

Independent child therapist.

Mara could remain in the household, but under clear conditions during the early review period.

Some relatives wanted me to seek custody.

I considered it.

My lawyer asked:

“Do you believe Daniel is incapable of ever parenting safely again?”

May you like

I could not honestly say yes.

So I did not ask the court to pretend I could.
