Chapter 26 - The gate comes down

Three years after the incident, Daniel replaced the backyard gate.
Not because it was legally required.
Because Olivia hated it.
I was there when the contractor removed it.
The black iron section came loose.
Olivia watched.
“What goes there now?”
Daniel said:
“What do you want?”
She thought.
“Flowers.”
So:
Flowers.
Hydrangeas.
Lavender.
Two rose bushes.
No barrier.
No lock.
The old gate went to scrap.
I did not keep a piece.
