Chapter 12 - Adrian Is Found

Adrian made it 230 miles.

State police stopped him at a motel parking lot after a vehicle alert.

He did not run.

No gun.

No hostage.

No dramatic chase.

He asked for an attorney immediately.

Good decision legally.

Investigators searched the vehicle under warrant.

Inside:

Clothing.

Laptop.

Two external drives.

Approximately $11,000 cash.

Company documents.

And Caleb’s missing phone.

The phone mattered enormously.

Adrian had kept it instead of destroying it.

Why?

Because he was using Caleb’s device to approve account logins that sent verification codes.

Convenience defeats criminals surprisingly often.

Forensic extraction showed activity after Caleb was already trapped.

Messages deleted.

Banking codes.

Email access.

Searches.

One search occurred six days after the disappearance:

how long can someone survive with little water.

Another:

missing adult presumed voluntary leave police timeline.

Ugly.

But evidence must still be authenticated and contextualized.

It was.
