Chapter 8 - It Was Supposed to Be One Night

According to Caleb, Adrian never initially said:

“I’m going to keep you here for nine days.”

They argued in the living room.

Adrian shoved him.

Caleb struck the side of a table.

That explained the blood.

Caleb remained conscious but dazed.

Adrian dragged him toward a hidden access panel inside a hall closet.

That access panel had been discovered during renovations months earlier.

Adrian knew about the old cellar because he had repaired plumbing near it.

Caleb knew vaguely that there was an old space.

He did not realize it remained accessible.

Adrian got him below.

Took his phone.

Closed the access.

Later, Adrian returned with water.

He said:

“You’re staying down there until we figure this out.”

Caleb thought:

Hours.

Maybe overnight.

Adrian wanted him to sign a statement claiming Caleb had authorized the questionable transfers.

Caleb refused.

Then one night became two.

Then three.
